hey, you know the real reason that 80s analog luddites refuse to adopt digital technology, right?
it's because they don't know how to use it and don't want to learn how.
forward thinking artists don't define themselves in terms of the technology they use to create the art, they define themselves in terms of the sound involved in creating it. that's what an artist does - they say "i want this specific sound, and i'm going to do this list of things to get it". and, no worthwhile electronic artist would think it's beneficial to them to restrict their options, unless, i guess, it's being done as some kind of a pointless game, which would be temporary.
as a matter of practice, electronic musicians working in the 21st century should be utilizing a wide array of technology to generate a diverse set of sounds. i know i am...
...and i know that i tend to be get very critical when i see people restrict their options due to what is ultimately obviously an inability to utilize the technology. it's backwards thinking, all around.
but, i'm only going to get on somebody's ass for being a luddite if they suck. it is possible to be a luddite and still be interesting, after all. and, that goes back to the initial point - it's about what it sounds like, not about what was used to make it.
