it might sound kind of "eastern". sure.

but, where it actually came from was hendrix's inhumanly large hands, and his sloppy mix of open guitar chords with killer blues licks. few people can really do what he did. look at the size of his hands, kids. but, corgan just took a small aspect of that and made it his own.
