calvinism is not the right way to approach this problem. regular people do not have the time and resources to approach the issue or build proper infrastructure. nor ought they be expected to work for nothing in return, no matter how warm and fuzzy a silly video with a positive message might get you feeling about it.

working with disadvantaged people is a job - that it is, it is labour - and should come with a pay check, holidays and benefits, like any other job. it also requires a level of training. four years, and a degree's worth, actually.

stop playing into the thatcherism. this isn't the church's responsibility. it's not the responsibility of good meaning citizens, either. it's a general social responsibility. there's an economy underlying it, and it should be treated that way.
