Yeah, Deafeaven copied this note for note and gets best album of the year.

this is way better than sunbather! besides, that has more of a blackmetal vibe going on... this is pure emo. as one of my fave albums ever, i kinda like this to keep a low profile. just look at the whole american football resurgence - 100% cringefest
Luis Parada
Nothing will ever have a low profile if it's on the internet, it's all a matter of time until anyone or any scene latches onto this

keep it secret, keep it safe

yeah, i don't hear the similarity, either. deafheaven sounds more like a third rate isis knock-off, really, with all the slow moving riffs. you can really hear the punk rock in this.
i'd be more likely to draw a comparison to something like touche amore.
but, let's not overstate it's importance. most people telling you they were listening to this in the 90s are lying to you. it only sold a few hundred copies, and the live audience basically consisted of their moms. it was actually out of print for almost ten years due to lack of sales, which tells you there was zero interest, considering that ebullition isn't exactly the home of multiplatinum artists. if you were alive in the 90s, you'd understand how most people would have listened to it and wrote it off as a bunch of kids trying to sound like nirvana (however wrong, and half-right, that actually is). what brought it back into print was a bunch of like thursday and glassjaw fans digging through the ebullition catalogue. and that's something that happened because of the internet.

Well said, this applies to virtually every Emo and Screamo band that existed back then, especially ones like Portraits of Past who only lasted a year tops.

unfortunately I was born in 1991 and didn't get introduced to this till I was 20. Back when I was 15 I was listening to modest mouse to crass, cursive to bikini kill, built to spill, halo benders. List goes on yada yada. Thank you for pointing out the truth, it's "kinda" important.

This is one of the best comments I've ever read on youtube. That said, deafheaven sound nothing like isis, third rate or otherwise.
deathtokoalas
i made that comment over a year ago, so it was relative to their material as it existed at that time - and, actually, solely restricted to sunbather. i did happen to briefly check out their new record because they played here a few weeks ago, and it was definitely less isis-like. but, i'm going to hold by my description of sunbather as third rate post-metal.
Transcendental Svartmetall
theyre more like a lantlos ripoff
deathtokoalas
i've never heard of lantlos.
i mean, i'm a transgendered cree-finn-italian-irish-jew mix. racist metal isn't exactly appealing to me.
Transcendental Svartmetall
every song from lantlos' neon album sounds like a song from sunbather just 3 years before. Neige De Mars sounds like dreamhouse. Coma sounds like the first half of sunbather and Minusmensch sounds like the last half.
