elektra records would appear to be an idea more than a physical company. this page will document whatever concept of elektra i run across in my record collection, but will mostly list alternative music cds released after 1982 and before 2001 by the major label warner-elektra-atlantic group, which started a new numbering system using the warner distribution number of 7559 and the catalog # of 60xxx (so, 7559 60xxx), and eventually renamed itself simply to elektra records, before getting corrupted in the disastrous aol buyout of 2001 and actually shut down in 2004. this is an unusual major label catalog, because it is linear-chronological, like an independent label. however, it was actually one of the biggest music conglomerates in the world at the time.
