so, consider the 2013 night birds release, born to die in suburbia, for example.

the record was released on june 2, 2013 but it is in my july pile because the files i have are dated to july 9th. i actually first mention it in my blog on oct 10th, as i'm catching up on some things i wasn't paying attention to over the summer.

so, there will be (at least) three posts for this.

1) a june 2nd post, indicating it's release date. this post will eventually be a mirror of the page at the appspot site, which will both house a review of the record and link out to what i call the music web. the entire music web will be mirrored here at the blogspot dtk site, and this will replace the more awkward timeline i currently have at the appspot site. i will be pulling data down more regularly to ensure i can reconstruct if necessary.

2)  the oct 10th post.

3) when i do a review of this record one day, it will also be posted in the correct space in chronological time.

i hope that the nature of this page is now a little more clear.

when i catch up, i may find myself re-engaging more, but youtube is permanently broken as a forum and i simply don't like reddit. we'll see what appears over time.

this page will never allow comments; it's not a forum.
so, just to clarify the point....

this blog is largely a timeline for the following page:

http://dghjdfsghkrdghdgja.appspot.com/categories/music/index/index.html

...which is going to need to be drastically updated as i run through the actual reviews.

that page is not meant to be a current review site like pitchfork or drowned in sound. rather, it is meant to be a historical review site, more like allmusic. that's not even what i'm aiming for, though - i'm aiming for something more like christgau. it's not supposed to be a place where people go to get information about this year's hip new music trends, but rather a place where people go to sort through substantive music over the ages. and, yes, i'm comically behind on it at this point.

i previously had a five year moratorium on reviews, which was designed to help me catch up, as well as to help me put ideas into context. as it is now 2019, that would mean that records released up to this point in 2014 would be eligible for review. but, i don't want to be actually posting reviews for media in the existing reality at this point, partly because it would really slow me down. i want to get back to my own music...

the historical reviews are useful to note as influences, and what i choose to review, and where i choose to review it, will be determined primarily by the desire to list influences. this is less of a concern for the more recent recordings. and, at this point, i haven't been paying much attention to new releases for several years - i'm in a "tuned out" phase, which is periodic and normal for me. when i tune back in, i'm going to be looking for obscure music, as i usually do.

i'm consequently extending my moratorium to 20 years. but, the 20 year rule is actually only going to apply to the alter-reality; more broadly speaking, i only want to be reviewing material by dead artists, or defunct bands. this will allow me to digest entire discographies at once, which will be necessary when i address some of the more obscure material in the list.

so, i'm currently listening to this stuff from mid 2013, and i'm going to take note of it, but i'm not going to actually write official cross-linked reviews for any of it at this time - that will need to wait until the bands in question break-up.

what to expect here is then as follows:

- for releases before mid-1993 and since mid-2013, this page will archive youtube discussions, identify release dates and house cursory or first impression type reviews.
- for releases between 1993-2013, this page will systematically/chronologically explore releases that were influential to me and write official reviews to be cross-referenced at the appspot site.

the scope of the page will expand as i work through the discography.

but, i have to keep reminding everybody that what i'm doing right now is writing liner notes for the period one and two releases, and that i want to catch up to the alter-reality and get back to the discgraphy.

this will no doubt be taken down relatively shortly.

there was recently some closure on one of the most compelling stories of the rock era.

jimi's tribute to his biggest influence remains the most fitting eulogy to the man who was arguably the most important guitarist the world has ever seen. it's unfortunate that his family still won't allow his music to be streamed on the internet - but we can hear the man's own interpretation of the track that was written to mourn his own death.

in the end, dick dale outlived jimi hendrix by nearly 50 years.

but, he's not still here, anymore.

the world is changing.

the return of deathtokoalas

this is the actual first post to this site, dated correctly.

this is the music review blog - concert reviews, album reviews and general music criticism. no politics. i will be archiving youtube discussions here, too - edited for brevity. the site is unlikely to be current for some time, but it should house many historical reviews as i work through the alter-reality. it will also act as a front end for the appspot site on the side.

i didn't want to do this, but i feel i have to do it as i work through the alter-reality...

so, if you always liked my music reviews, but don't like my politics, this is the blog for you.

i'm only returning to my old handle due to the fact that i'm already using the others. i never intended for the association to stick, but i suppose it has.

don't tell the koala central command.
