you know, i've actually never really listened to a lot of schubert. it's in this huge pile of stuff that i've just written off as "beethoven lite", which isn't to say that i wouldn't vote for infinite beethoven, so much as it is to point out that i'd rather listen to the real thing.

i'm going to give schubert's ninth a chance tonight, though. can he prove to me that he's adding something worthwhile to beethoven's stylistic revolution? or will he just further perpetuate my low expectations?
the dso this weekend is doing some generic "boring german classical music". you don't have to guess what they're doing next week, do you? it's the solstice, so they kind of have to - it's what they get paid to do.

although, detroit should take note: this is how they do it in berlin.

if you're a little less iconoclastic than i am, you might even appreciate these pieces. i'll pass, though. there's some more abstract stuff coming up in the new year...
