this is saturday night, after beethoven's fifth concerto, and across the street from it. so, a potential night out would begin at the dso and end at the majestic.

while it has some nice idm-y moments, it's perhaps a little too generic for me, overall. i doubt i'd really enjoy it that much. i'm on the cusp of scratching it out.

what that means is that the saturday concerto would be a lone and fairly early event, which makes the all-nighter on thursday much more appealing, especially if i write off friday due to the weather. that makes wednesday more likely.

but, i'm going to listen to it a few more times before i write it off entirely.

this is the late show, and while i do like the instrumental sections, i'm also a little turned off by the vocal funk. it's not as bad as some of the other stuff i've heard, though - and the instrumental sections are fairly strong, meaning they kind of overpower.

so, i might want to go to this show and dance it up. certainly. but, i'm going to make a last minute choice based on the weather...

50/50.

this starts off fairly promising, but ends up devastatingly frontloaded. regardless, the idea was that it was on the way to the late show (if i skip the psych show), so it does not make sense to scratch it off the list entirely, as i may decide at the last minute to hit the late show, especially if i don't do the all-nighter on thursday.

i would like to hear some more up-tempo recordings from this ensemble.

i'm going to try to bring you down my path of logic with this, as the weekend is stacked with questionable shows.

first - if i was going to go out on friday night, it would be primarily to see this act, and i've decided that this should not be a priority on this night, given the totality of factors. it's kind of far, and probably going to be a little cold overnight. i might have made a different choice if the weather was a little different, and i still might if it flips over. but, i am currently not planning on going to this show.

what that means is that i should not try to avoid an all-nighter on thursday night, under concerns about being burnt out for friday, even if i do feel good enough about it at the last minute. that does not mean i will plan an all-nighter on thursday, nor that i will skip the funk show on friday night - only that i will not be planning around this show on friday night.

regarding the band's music, i like the aesthetic, but wish it was a little bit more elaborate, or a little bit more frenetic, or something else. i know that others will disagree, but this precise combination of spooky psych without detailed musicianship is a little bit uneventful for me. they could open it up with some lead guitar work, or with some noise rock, but i'm not getting into the slow grind on it's own.
