bordering a little on neo-luddism, but i can agree with the crux of this.

it's very dangerous, however, to blame the technology, rather than the system it's being plugged into. you look at the awful comments all over youtube. did they not exist before? no, they existed. you just didn't know they were there.

we sit around complaining about how badly implemented the social media sites are, without realizing they're designed "badly" on purpose. is it about building connections? sure - it's about connecting consumers with advertisers.

that's not your phone's fault, though. it's a function of the socio-economic reality we inhabit.


i've never owned a smart phone. i don't think i'm missing out.
